Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTPRG511 - Monitor and support data conversion to new ICT system

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Monitor data conversion

  1. Obtain the conversion supporting documentation, and apply it to the conversion process
  2. Protect production data, by taking action to ensure backup before the conversion
  3. Determine the requirements of the client, and the impact on the business operation
  4. Identify and confirm the software, hardware or environmental prerequisites in the conversion plan
  5. Validate data accuracy and integrity, according to conversion specifications
  6. Identify data rejected by conversion tools, and carry out the actions detailed in the conversion plan
  7. Document the data rejection or errant behaviour of the conversion process

Evidence of the ability to:

obtain and apply the conversion supporting documentation

ensure backup before conversion

determine client requirements, and the impact on the business operation

identify and confirm the software, hardware or environmental prerequisites in the plan

validate data accuracy and integrity, according to the specifications

identify the data rejected by the conversion tools, and carry out actions specified in the plan

verify the results, presenting them to the appropriate person and obtaining sign-off

maintain and document backup copies of the conversion files, according to requirements

develop clear and coherent technical documentation.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe current data modelling methodologies

explain current industry data conversion tools

describe current industry-accepted hardware and software products, including their general features and capabilities

explain data conversion from legacy systems.
